A major work of the Atlantic Wall, the coastal defence battery of Longues sur Mer has a firing headquarters and four blockhouses each housing a 150mm piece of artillery. Located at the heart of this allied attack zone, at the top of a cliff overlooking the Channel, it played a strategic role during the D-Day Landings of the Allied Forces on 6 June 1944.
Guided tours from April to October, lasting 55 minutes.

Taken by storm on the morning of 6 June by the men of Colonel
Rudder’s 2nd Ranger Battalion, this was also one of the strong points of the German fortifications. The place reminds us of what a German battery was like, with its range-finding post, its casemates, its shelters...

This 172,5 acres cemetery overlooks Omaha Beach. It contains the graves of 9387 soldiers killed in action. A chapel, a Memorial and a Garden of the Missing honor their memory. The Visitors Center pays homage to the courage and competence that led to the success of Operation Overlord and to the liberation of Europe, as well as to the sacrifice of those who are now resting in this place.

The British military cemetery at Bayeux contains the graves of 4144 Commonwealth soldiers who died during World War II. 338 are unidentified and 505 are of other nationalities, mostly German. Opposite, a Mémorial has been erected in memory of those who fought to liberate Europe. On the front, the sentence in Latin recalls how, in 1944, the British came to free the Homeland of their victors of 1066.

LE MEMORIAL DES REPORTERS
Bayeux

A realisation by the Municipality of Bayeux and Reporters without Borders. Access via rue de Verdun - unaccompanied visit. Dedicated to reporters and freedom of the press, this site is unique in Europe.

It comprises a landscaped promenade lined with white stones on which the names of journalists killed on the job around the world since 1944 are engraved. Over 2,000 names have been inscribed on the stones. An interactive information terminal about the circuit and the circumstances behind the journalists’ disappearance is available for free consultation at the Battle of Normandy Memorial Museum.

This military cemetery contains the graves of 21300 German casualties of World War II. Reception and information centre and permanent exhibition. Peace Garden: plantation of 1200 maples, a living symbol of peace among nations.
